Goats can be found in large numbers in the mid north of South Australia and are well spread across most of the bottom half of Australia. Because these are heard animals they compete with sheep and cattle for food and water making them a large problem for farmers especially in times of little or no rain when feed can be scarce or non existent. Even though goats are not considered to be smart and cunning like the fox they do have exceptional sight and smell and seem to have a sixth sense for knowing when you are trying to close in on them and make a hasty exit. Just getting into areas that contain goats can be enough of a challenge because as well as inhabiting the flat open areas they also inhabit hills and seem to be able to move with great speed up hills and through valleys making tracking and stalking them quite a hard slog in itself. Below is a picture of a billy taken with my .22-250 in the hills around Ororroo in the mid north of South Australia.

One of my friends Mark also enjoys coming shooting with me and below is a couple of goats shot by him. Both the goats pictured below were shot using his early 1900's 6.5x55 caliber rifle.
